VECO upgrades power lines

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - As part of its 10-year development plan to reinforce reliability, efficiency, and continuous power supply within its franchise area, the Visayan Electric Company is currently constructing three sub-transmission line projects.

During the construction of these projects, customers in some areas will experience power service interruptions.

The MRA-Mabolo-Mandaue 69 kV line in the northern region begun construction in May 2013 and is expected to be completed in December 2014. Customers in barangays Bakilid, Subangdaku, Panagdait and Mabolo will experience power outages, schedules of which will be announced in VECO’s Facebook page and published in the local papers.

NGCP Colon-VECO Naga 69 kV line in the southern part started its construction on July 2013 and is projected to finish by July 18, 2014, together with VECO's two substations, the AYA TR2 and NAGA 69kV switching station. Three power service interruptions are expected to affect barangay Colon and barangay  Tangke in Naga  during the project.

The construction of NGCP Quiot - VECO DGG 69 kV line in the central region is now in the final stage of construction and will be energized by the third week of July  2014. A maximum of 5 power service interruptions is expected in portions of the barangays of Quiot, Bayanihan, Mambaling, Ermita, Kalubihan, Tisa, San Nicolas, Pasil, Duljo and Alaska.

These new 69kV lines will help minimize unscheduled power service interruptions as these substations will be interconnected into the loop through these lines. These will help meet the franchise area's growing demand for power and provide better service reliability to customers.

VECO is the second largest utility company in the country, serving the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, Naga and the municipalities of San Fernando, Consolacion and Liloan. (FREEMAN)
