Campus News: NYC welcomes Duterte youth leader as new commissioner

The National Youth Commission welcomed Duterte Youth chairman Ronald Cardema as NYC commissioner representing Luzon, with the rank of Assistant Secretary as he took his oath on Sept. 18.  President Duterte appointed Cardema to replace Percival Cendaña.

DepEd, UP Manila train teachers to spot child abuse

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones signed an agreement with the University of the Philippines (UP) campus in Manila for the launch of the Safe Schools for Teens website, an online teachers’ training program on the 4Rs (recognize, record, report, and refer) of child abuse on Sept. 19. The program is for teachers in all private and public schools. It was implemented in Manila High School and Victorino Mapa High School for trial two years ago. Now that it’s fully launched, DepEd and UP said they hope to train around 700,000 teachers nationwide.

NYC visits Marawi evacuees

As part of the #BangonMarawi program, National Youth Commission chairperson Aiza Seguerra visited evacuation centers in various parts of Marawi such as Buru-un, Pantar, Tibanga, Saguiaran, Pantar, Balo-I, Pantao Ragat, and Marawi from Sept. 6 to 7 to inspire and serenade victims affected by the conflict. Seguerra said he felt happiness upon seeing the smiles on the faces of the Marawi siege. He assured them that he will go back to the area when needed and will give his support until Marawi is restored.
