PayMaya transactions seen to exceed P200 B

MANILA, Philippines - PLDT Inc. expects its digital payments provider PayMaya Philippines Inc. (formerly Smart e-Money Inc.) to post a total transaction volume of P200 billion this year.

“Full year transaction volume of the PayMaya platforms will approximate P200 billion – not bad for a rather new innovation,” PLDT chairman and chief executive officer Manuel V. Pangilinan said.

He said PayMaya has already taken the lead in the mobile payments business after having a throughput of nearly P50 billion in the first quarter.

The combined throughput of P200 billion seen for PayMaya this year, he said, would come from three sources such as the PayMaya mobile wallet app, PayMaya Business which allows businesses to receive payments from all cards anytime and anywhere, and domestic remittance service Smart Padala.

PayMaya is part of the Voyager Group or the digital financial unit of PLDT.

Earlier this week, PayMaya announced it partnered with Uber to allow consumers without credit cards to be able to experience and pay for the latter’s ride-share service through the digital payments app.
