Magnitude 7.2 quake hits waters off Sulu
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday afternoon reported a magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit waters off Sulu.
The tremor’s epicenter was traced 223 kilometers south 23° east of Tongkil, Sulu. It has a depth of focus of 625 kilometers.
Intensity II was reported in General Santos City which means the quake was slightly felt.
Although there is no damage reported, Phivolcs warned of aftershocks.
Aside from the magnitude 7.2 tremor, four other minor quakes were recorded by Phivolcs on Tuesday. The earthquakes jolted San Antonio, Zambales; Bayaba, Surigao Del Sur; Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro; and Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.
All earthquakes recorded on Tuesday were tectonic in origin.
