Abbas says keen to keep dialogue with Hamas to end rift

The Philippine Star

RAMALLAH (Xinhua) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Saturday that he is keen to keep the dialogue with Hamas movement to finalize reconciliation and end the internal rift.

Abbas' affirmation was made at the inauguration of his Fatah Party's revolutionary council held in Ramallah. "Our dialogue with Hamas will continue until achieving the full reconciliation," he said.

"The last agreement we reached with Hamas is based on two major issues, forming the unity government and going for elections," said Abbas, referring to the formation of the consensus government that took oath in June.

Meanwhile, Abbas said that east Jerusalem is on the top priority of the Palestinian leadership, revealing that the holy city faces settlers' assaults to divide the city and empty it.

Speaking about the move of going to the UN Security Council for ending the Israeli occupation and establishing a state, Abbas said "we want to gain a resolution that gives us the right to establish our state on 1967 borders."

Meanwhile, Fatah Party's central committee called on the British government to recognize the independent Palestinian state established on the territories Israel occupied in 1967.

Nabil Abu Rdineh, spokesman of the committee, said in a press statement that the Palestinians highly appreciate Sweden's stance and the British Common House decisions to recognize a Palestinian state in the future.
