CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government is granting Bigfoot Entertainment Philippines, Inc. another 25 years lease contract of a prime property located at the South Road Properties.

The Cebu City Council has authorized Mayor Michael Rama to enter into a Supplemental Contract of Lease with Bigfoot Entertainment Philippines, Inc. until 2057.

Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera sponsored the resolution which the council passed without objection.

Pesquera said Michael Gleissner, Director of Bigfoot Entertainment Philippines, Inc. wrote a letter to Rama requesting the extension of its lease term at the SRP for another 25 years.

Bigfoot has an existing Contract of Lease with the city government, which the parties entered into on February 21, 2007 and Supplemental Contract of Lease entered into on February 5, 2008 for the use of 2-hectare lot at the SRP. The existing lease term of Bigfoot is expected to end on February 29, 2032.

“Bigfoot, which was the earliest locator at the SRP, intends to further embark on more developments and projects in the field of film production and business process outsourcing on the leased land at the SRP,” said Pesquera.

The office of Pesquera received a letter from Rama favorably endorsing the proposal of Bigfoot and declared no objection to the request.

“Considering the fact that this company has contributed to Cebu City's economy, has been compliant with the rules and regulations the same has imposed and has contributed a big part to the city's battle against the ongoing pandemic; hence, the undersigned is favorable to Bigfoot's proposal,” read Rama’s letter.

To recall, Bigfoot allowed the city government to utilize their site for the New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home (NOAH) Complex, first as quarantine center, then for vaccination site.

The Committee on Awards also approved Resolution No. 2022-001 endorsing the request of Bigfoot.

Further, the City Legal Office (CLO), in Contract Review No. 2022-060FCC series of 2022, finds the Supplemental Contract of Lease in accordance with law, and is not contrary to morals, good customs, public order or public policy and recommended to the Sangguniang Panlungsod to pass and approve a resolution authorizing Rama to enter into and sign a supplemental contract of lease with Bigfoot.

Section 455 (b)(1) (vi) of the Local Government Code of 1991 provides that "for efficient, effective and economical governance the purpose of which is the General Welfare of the City and its inhabitants pursuant to Section 16 of the Code, the city mayor shall: Represent the city in its business transactions xxx upon authority of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.” — FPL (FREEMAN)
