Girl, 13, dies in Iloilo fire

CEBU, Philippines – Before dawn of Sunday, a 13-year-old girl died when she was trapped inside a burning house in Barotac Viejo town in Iloilo province.

The victim, Danna Lou Jane Relano, daughter of the house help, was suffering from a leg ailment the reason why she failed to go out quickly from the burning house, allegedly owned by a certain Scarlet Ganzon.

Investigators said the fire could have been caused by a short circuit of electrical wiring. The damage to property was pegged at P3.2 million.

Meanwhile, another fire broke out Monday morning and razed eight houses, mostly made of light materials, at a residential area in Barangay M.H. del Pilar of Jaro district in Iloilo City.

Initial investigation showed the fire started at the two-storey house of a certain Neneng Vencer and quickly spread to the adjacent houses owned by Georga Perez, Freddie Nalaunay, Alma Villa, Roberto Sabidong, Estrella Huerva, Naldo Hiponia. The house of Ramon Cana was partially destroyed.

The fire was declared under control at around 8:55 p.m. and there was no reported injury.
