Negrense teacher commits suicide

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines   â€” A 34-year-old male teacher in this city reportedly committed suicide by slashing both his wrists with a kitchen knife last Tuesday, police said yesterday.

Alster Roxas, a Science teacher at Jack & Jill School in Brgy. Taculing of this city, was found lifeless in his room by his parents, according to Sr. Insp. Benedicto Villarias, Station 4 deputy chief.

Superintendent Jefferson Descallar, deputy director for operations of the Bacolod City Police Office, yesterday said that, based on investigation, the police believed Roxas committed suicide as there was no foul play linked to his death. “We found a suicide note in his room,” he said.

Descallar added that Roxas was suffering from an ailment, which they refused to disclose, but frustrations over his illness may have led him to end his life.

Last month, a teacher in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental committed suicide by shooting himself in the head, reportedly due to a problematic relationship with his girlfriend.  (FREEMAN)
