CEBU, Philippines - The City Council had unanimously approved a resolution declaring Manuel "Manny" V. Pangilinan, or MVP, as an adopted son of Bacolod City.

MVP, one of the most- eminent and self-made corporate titans in the country, is the 50th richest Filipino according to Forbes' List of Billionaires in the Philippines with net worth of P4.5 billion, as of July 2013.

He is at the top of the giant PLDT group that has interests in telecommunications (PLDT, Smart, TnT and Sun),media (TV 5), infrastructure and toll ways (Metro Pacific Investments Corp.), mining (Philex Mining Corporation) and utility services (Meralco and Maynilad), among others.

Councilor Kalaw Puentevella said the life success story of MVP is an inspiration that is worth emulating for all Filipinos.

MVP is not only a business magnate but a philanthropist who made it to the Forbes Asia's Heroes of Philanthropy List in 2009.

During his years in Hong Kong, he founded and chaired the Bayanihan Center that provided cultural and vocational activities for Filipino domestic workers there.

In December 2012, he mobilized his telecommunication companies in a national telethon that raised millions of pesos to aid the victims of typhoon Pablo.

Barangay Banago, a flood prone area in Bacolod City, was one of the recipients covered by the national program "Project Noah" under the wings of the PLDT group (Smart and TnT), headed by MVP.

"This simple and hearty resolution is a manifestation that the city government of Bacolod truly recognizes the services and contributions of Manuel "MVP" Pangilinan in the different sectors or our community," Puentevella added. (FREEMAN)
