‘Karomata’ lane soon at Carbon market
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government is set to establish a dedicated lane for “karomata” or push carts and e-bikes at Carbon Market to ease traffic congestion further.
This dedicated lane will be around the “bagsakan” area.
Once the bagsakan area will already be demolished, it will be paved and cemented and converted as a dedicated lane for karomata and e-bikes, according to Robert Barquilla, the city’s Market Operations Division chief.
This is done to decongest the main road of the Carbon Market which is M.C. Briones Street.
“Once nga ma-established na nato ang karomata lane, ato na gyud na silang pagadakpon nya atong na na silang pamultahan ang mga naka violate,” Barquilla said.
Barquilla also stressed that such a move is not “anti-poor” but to put things in order for everyone’s sake as Mayor Michael Rama has long emphasized.
“Dili anti poor..tapukon mga tag-iya sa karomata, e-bike sa gobiyerno, patas man ta so before sa implementation, ato silang meeting tanan…Pasabton nga naa na tas dedicated lane para nila,” assured Barquilla.
The city government has been redeveloping the Carbon Market with the hope of further boosting the local economy.
Aside from the locals, Cebu’s biggest public market is aimed at becoming world-class for tourists to all go around to buy and eat. — (FREEMAN)
