The global community is engulfed in a crisis of gigantic proportion. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought suffering and death to millions of people around the world with no end in sight. But despite of the dire situation, people have realized that after all we are all brothers and sisters and children of one God so that we hear of magnanimous deeds performed by some affluent countries helping others who are not, by sending things and equipment needed to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Some like Cuba are sending their own doctors and nurses to countries where they are most needed.
Here in our own country we hear of the heroic deeds of frontliners who give their unspeakable love of others by serving and working long hours and some even died after being infected by the virus themselves. Then, when typhoon Ulysses hit our country with devastating effects, we hear of people who volunteered in rescue operations and distribution of relief goods and some died like a volunteer who was electrocuted during rescue operation.
These people found an opportunity to serve during a calamity. However, those who died will not die in vain. We look up to them as our modern-day heroes. But more so, in the eyes of God and when their souls reach the pearly gates, the Lord is there to welcome them and would say thank you my daughter or my son, thank you for a job well-done.
