BAKASI-SAKALI. Following the uproar in social media over Netflix featuring bakasi in a food program, many are putting in their two cents’ worth.
“I agree, bakasi isn’t really famous as a street food,” a netizen said.
Others are saying the program totally missed the point, focusing on the “poverty porn” instead of celebrating the enjoyment of food.
“Whereas other Asian countries highlighted the celebration of food as a way of life, the Philippine segment showed food as an act of survival against poverty,” another commented.
