Since when can a medical technologist make statements as to the cause of death of an individual? As far as I know, doctors who have been studying for years, and who have the thorough clinical internship and residency are the only ones qualified to state what caused a person’s death. John Paul Solano, the Aegis Juris fratman who brought Horacio Castillo III’s body to the hospital, seems to have suddenly made himself an expert in cardiology. According to his “knowledge as a medical technologist”, a heart condition is what killed Horacio Castillo III, and not hazing. Based on the autopsy report, Castillo’s heart was enlarged, most likely due to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. So according to his expertise, that’s what killed Castillo, and not the brutal hazing. Just like that, Solano is now a cardiologist.
I looked at the medical technology syllabus. I could not find any subject or internship that pertained to students having clinical training with patients. There are also no internal medicine subjects, much less cardiology. Almost all of their studies are for laboratory work. Medical technologists test samples from patients, be it blood or other bodily fluids. With the help of science and technology, they provide findings to doctors who then come up with a diagnosis, and then determine the best mode of treatment, be it medicinal or surgical. Medical technologists do not diagnose, they do not hold clinics for patients, and they most definitely have no capacity to determine the cause of death of a person.
Is Solano sure that the stress that Castillo suffered during the beatings and torture did not cause his heart to fail? Is Solano saying that Castillo’s heart could not take the hazing, which caused him to die, and therefore the fraternity is not accountable? If a person with a walking disability crosses the road and gets hit by a vehicle, killing him instantly, did he die because he could not walk fast?
This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. It shows just how desperate these people are. They can no longer run away from their accountability in Castillo’s death. From the brutal hazing, to lying to authorities when Castillo’s body was brought to the hospital, to members talking about silencing the family and covering up the crime. Solano has been lying from the start. Now he is coming up with preposterous statements. Whatever offers for this guy to turn state witness must be tossed out the window. He should just compare notes with Tomas Bagcal, as both have been lying to authorities in their respective cases.
