The officials of Medellin, Cebu in the 1930s

These were the officials of Medellin, Cebu in the 1930s: Jose Ancajas (who was Municipal President from 1934 to 1940), Municipal President. The Vice President (today's equivalent to the position of Vice Mayor) was Vicente M. Gonzales.

The Councilors were: Sisenando Lequigan, Tomas S. Gelig, Cesar Jomaoas, Ceferino Bagaforo and Sixto Quiñones.

When Alfredo V. Jacinto was appointed Cebu City Mayor, the Municipality of Medellin, Cebu in a meeting at its Session Hall on December 15, 1936 passed a resolution extending its felicitation to the new position of Mr. Jacinto.

Here is the excerpt of the resolution numbered 153, dated December 15, 1936:

The Municipal President, Mr. Ancajas, introduced the adoption of the following resolution:

WHEREAS, it has been learned that Alfredo V. Jacinto, Cebu's favorite and beloved Provincial Treasurer, is slated to another post as Mayor in the newly chartered City of Cebu;

WHEREAS, it cannot be denied that Mr. Jacinto as Provincial Treasurer has done much for the betterment and uplift of Cebu Province more particularly its sound working financial standing and stability, the acquisition of which, is wholly attributed to his efficient administration and good dealings with his working subordinates;

WHEREAS, it is beyond any reasonable doubt that the Province and its people would have protested of the proposed movement, but, believing that it is greatly motivated by reasons of promotion in rank, such people including this Municipal Council of Medellin in representation of the people this very particular municipality, instead, hereby

RESOLVED as it is RESOLVED, to convey to Provincial Treasurer. Mr. Alfredo V. Jacinto, as it hereby conveyed, its sincere and hearty rejoicing its congratulation on his nomination and appointment as Mayor in the newly chartered City of Cebu. IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of the resolution be furnished the Provincial Treasurer, Mr. A.V. Jacinto for his information. Upon motion of Councilor, Mr. Sixto Quinones, and seconded by Councilor, Mr. Tomas Gelig, the foregoing resolution was UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED. The resolution was certified on December 17, 1936 by Ramon C. Tampos, the Municipal Secretary.

Alfredo V. Jacinto and Cebu was finally installed and the City of Cebu inaugurated on February 24, 1937.

Medellin, Cebu became a town on December 1, 1901, its founder Victor Tumulak. These were the Municipal Presidents of Medellin, Cebu: Melecio Montesclaros (1900-1903), Juan Rubio (1904-1905), Victor Tumulak (1905-1910), Julian M. Tumulak (1911-1918), Pedro Perez (1919-1922), Marcos Munasque (1923-1933), Jose Ancajas (1933-1940), Julian M. Tumulak (1941-1942), Jose S. Gelig (1942-1944), Ignacio Rodriguez (1945-1946), Sabas Y. Quijano (1946-1955), Max B. Dublin (1956).

In 1963 under the leadership of Maximo B. Dublin, the following were the officials of Medellin: Alfonso R. Lim (Vice Mayor), Jose Gelig (Secretary), Teodoro F. Lim (Judge), Eugenio Argomido (Treasurer), Hermenegildo Lobitana (Chief of Police) and Dr. Laureano Yap as Health Officer.

The Municipal Councilors were: Cipriano Noynay, Romualdo Villapez, Lorenzo Rosos, Marciano Mondigo, Pantaleon Sequino, Zacarias Yaun, Delfinito Montesclaros and Celerino V. Uy.

Medellin is bounded on the east by the Bogo Bay and on the west by the Bantayan Sea. It is separated from its southern part by the town of Bogo (now a city). It was separated from its mother municipality, Daan Bantayan on September 9, 1881, by virtue of a Royal Decree.
