"Ate" and "Kuya"

ANGRY. A popular Pinay movie and stage actress who has lived much of her life in the States was reported to have gotten angry at a young home-grown Pinay who called her "Ate." She was quoted as saying: "Why did you call me 'ate' when you are not my niece."

LOST TOUCH. This popular/celebrated actress has clearly lost touch of Mother Pinas reality. In this country, it has become common for youngsters to address women their senior as "Ate" and men also their senior "Kuya." And no one gets angry.
