BFP inspection urged on stores selling Christmas lights

CEBU, Philippines – As business establishments and vendors have starting selling assorted Christmas items this early, the Talisay City Council’s committee on labor, trade and industry had requested the Bureau of Fire and Protection and the city police to inspect stores selling Christmas lights.

City Councilor Aldin Diaz, in his proposed resolution, also reminded retailers to make sure the Christmas lights they are selling have gone through proper inspection before selling these in the city, in order to protect consumers.

Republic Act 4109 (Standards Law) mandates that only manufacturers and importers, whose products pass the safety and quality requirements of a specific standard, are issued with a PS License for locally-made products and ICC Certification for imported products. The “PS” and “ICC” marks on the products ensure that these are safe to use.

A DTI-certified Christmas light has a wire with outside diameter size of 1.5mm and the pin of the plug should not be easily bent.
