Town to implement ordinance granting aid to brgy execs

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Municipality of Consolacion will implement starting this year the ordinance granting medical and burial financial assistance to all barangay officials in cases of hospitalization and death during their incumbency.

The Municipal Council of Consolacion headed by Vice Mayor Aurelio Damole has passed the ordinance on October 4, 2013.

A budget of at least P1 million from the General Fund of the municipality has been appropriated annually under the Office of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for the initial implementation of the program.

Such budget, the ordinance said, may be increased or augmented as necessary subject to an appropriation ordinance.

The Municipal Social Welfare Office, under the ordinance, shall administer the fund and shall always appropriate an amount every year in the Annual Municipal Budget for its continuous implementation.

Muncipal officials of Consolacion recognized the continued commitment of all barangay officials in laying the foundation of functional local government units.

The municipality also recognizes the barangay officials' crucial responsibility in implementing programs to be more accessible to their constituents with their hands-on delivery of services despite harsh conditions in the field.

The ordinance, approved by the Municipal Council, aims to help barangay officials and their families in times of crisis as well as alleviating the burdens being brought about their hospitalization and death.
