CEBU, Philippines – About 6,000 senior citizens in Naga City have recently received their increased yearend financial assistance from the city government.
Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong said that from P500, the city's senior citizens received P1,000 cash gift for this year.
"The P1,000 cash gift is under the program dubbed as "Pinaskohan Alang ni Lola ug Lolo," Chiong said.
The mayor's daughter, Kristine Vanessa Chiong, the city executive assistant, supervised the distribution of the cash gift at the Enan Chiong Activity Center.
This was the third year that the city government extended financial aid to senior citizens.
Chiong said that it is the responsibility of the city government to ensure that the elderly are extended the benefits and services under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 or Republic Act (RA) 9994.
He expressed appreciation to the elders' contributions to city's development. – /LPM
