Police seize loose firearms

CEBU, Philippines - The Regional Intelligence Division (RID)-7 seized loose firearms worth P30,000 from an alleged gun seller during a buy-bust operation in M. Logarta Street, North Reclamation Area Cebu City Saturday afternoon.

The operation led to the arrest of Joel “Bebot” Pasaol, 43, of barangay Looc, Danao City.

Confiscated from him were two Luger KG9 automatic machine pistols with four magazines and a Colt .45 pistol with two magazines.

A confidential informant helped in the transaction and arrest.

Regional Police Information Office chief, Supt. Renato Dugan, said team leaders met Pasaol Saturday afternoon to discuss the transaction at the same place.

Officials helped raise P30,000 in marked money as down payment for two KG9 automatic pistols and one .45 pistol.

Pasaol also agreed to prepare the firearms which will be delivered on Sunday near the North bus terminal.

Pasaol arrived the next day and was arrested.

Dugan said the police are intensifying their operation against illegal firearms in anticipation of the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on October.

“We are intensifying our Oplan Boga campaign baka magamit sa crimes due to the barangay and SK election,” he said in a press conference.

A case for illegal possession of firearms is set to file today against Pasaol who is temporarily detained at the PRO-7 stockade. (FREEMAN)
