NYK interested in KAT?

NBA BUZZ - Bobby Motus - The Freeman

Positive things were expected when the Minnesota Timberwolves traded for Rudy Gobert and have their version of the Twin Towers with Karl Anthony-Towns.  But it were not meant to be when KAT got sidelined for most of the season because of a right calf strain.  Both had only played together for 32 games with a 16-16 win-loss record.

Fresh from a FIBA campaign, the 27-year old, 7-foot 2015 1st overall Draft pick and 2016 ROY is now ready for the new NBA season and had been starting strong in their past three pre season games.

This will be the season for the Wolves to see if KAT and Gobert could fit together on the court and how well their chemistry with star-in-the-making Anthony Edwards blends.

One of the rare 3-point shooting bigs but not an elite paint protector, KAT reportedly is one of the big-name trade candidates that the New York Knicks are setting their sights on (the other two being Joel Embiid and Luka Doncic).

Minnesota. being a small market team, have the second highest payroll in the league next to the Golden State Warriors.

It's going to be expensive for the Wolves when the combined $480-plus million contract extension that KAT and Edwards signed takes effect next season.  Big man Naz Reid had a 3-year deal worth $42 million and Jaden McDaniels on a $10m, 4-year rookie scale deal.

KAT could be a potentially dealt, if just to let Minnesota breathe a little with their spending

If the rumor actually gets true and KAT goes to the Knicks, he will be reunited with Tom Thibodeau who was his coach and team president in Minnesota before he was fired in 2019.

KAT would feel very comfortable in New York.   His former agent, Leon Rose, is now NYK president.   Former T-Wolves president Gersson Rosas serves as NYK's senior vice president of basketball operations.  Former WNBA player Kaayla Chones, who was the director of Minnesota's player programs, is now NYK's player development director.

Only time will tell if we'll see KAT in blue and orange.
