CEBU, Philippines — The Brodeth siblings Kimi and Kenzo of Ormoc City shared the limelight after reigning supreme in their respective divisions in the opening stage of the four-leg Cebu swing of the prestigious PPS-PEPP National Junior Tennis Circuit staged last August 3-9 to the Lapu-Lapu City Tennis Club courts.

Kenzo Brodeth outsmarted Cebu’s hometown bet Juvels Velos of Danao City, 6-1, 7-6 (11) to emerge as champion in the 14 Under boys singles.

Kenzo’s elder sister Kimi Brodeth also shined brightly after trouncing Shara Paliwag of Valencia, Negros Oriental in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2 to snare the 16 Under girls singles crown.

Kimi though failed in her bid for a golden double after she bowed to Lapu-Lapu City’s Tiffany Nocus, 6-1, 6-3, in the 18 Under girls final. Still, Kimi Brodeth was honored as the Most Valuable Player in the girls category. U16 champ Mateo Rivas bagged the MVP award in the men’s side.

At the moment, the rising stars from Ormoc are busy preparing for next year’s Unified Tennis Philippines (UTP)Top 8 Juniors Tournament that offers slots to ATF and ITF-sanctioned events abroad. — EBV
