DH Cebu FC starts bid in PFL bootfest today
CEBU, Philippines — After months of waiting, the Dynamic Herb Cebu FC, Cebu’s first ever pro football club, will finally plunge into action in the 2021 Philippine Football League (PFL) Copa Paulino Alcantara Cup, which will kick off today at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
“We’re very happy and very excited to be part of this professional league. We didn’t dream about becoming pro but right now we’re given a chance then we will try to grab the chance,” said CFC head coach Oliver ‘BingBing’ Colina.
DH Cebu FC is an assortment of UAAP, NCAA and CESAFI standouts, former Azkals, homegrown talents, and players who have played for other clubs in the PFL.
“We are going to bring excitement, and fun to the PFL. Manila be ready and wait for us, we are coming. Tara, Cebu,” said Ugur Tasci, Cebu FC’s general manager and technical director.
Ace Villanueva, who have suited up for the national team and the UP Fighting Maroons, will lead a young crop of goalkeepers in Terence Colmenares, John Francis Zambrano, and new addition Prince Lee Ferraren.
Ex-UP booters Kintaro Miyagi, Daniel Bernan Gadia, and Jeremiah Borlongan made it to the final lineup along with Tasci brothers Evren and Baris, Keenen Julian G. Cergneux, Jaime Rosquillo, Ruffy Llorente, Ranulfo ‘Bobong’ Colina, Mauro John Acot, Lorenzo Giuseppe Genco, Michael Pacite, John Roy R. Melgo III, Nicolas B. Ferrer Jr., Steven Patalinghug, and Yoji Elliot Selman.
The team beefed up its roster by picking up the likes of Jason Cordova, Charles Ralph Allan Dabao III, John Renz ‘Poy’ Saldivar, Jeremiah ‘JB’ Borlongan, Roberto ‘Papu’ Corsame Jr., and foreign reinforcements in Joaquin Can~as of Spain and Ricardo Ivan Sendra of Argentina.
“We just play hard and enjoy the game, If we win, it’s a bonus for the team,” assured Colina.
