Montejo, Lavandero shine in CEPCA weekly

CEBU, Philippines —  Jasper Norman Montejo and Maria Kristine Lavandero topped the Engr. Archie Garson Birthday Blitz Special spearheaded by the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) over the weekend via lichess platform.

Montejo, a native of Catbalogan City who was once a varsity player of St. Mary’s College, bagged the All-Cepcans title with the highest output of 7.5 points.

Rosendo Yamyamin finished at solo second with 6.5 points while Nicanor Cuizon and Jimmy Ty wound up third and fourth with 6.0 points each.

Competing the top seven were Reynaldo Flores, Archie Garson, and Eladio Lim III with 5.0 points apiece.

On the other hand, the 12-year-old Lavandero snared the Cepcans B-Ladies crown with 41 points. Under the tutelage of International Master Kim Steven Yap, Lavandero is a member of the University of Cebu (UC) chess team.

Reynaldo Flores settled for second with 40 points followed by Kristina Belano with 26 points. Making it to the top six were Dr. Leo Lofranco, Archt. Filemon Kapuno III, and Dr. Edwin Cablao. — EBV
