James De los Santos keeps fire of gold-medal rampage burning

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Keeping his poise and composure even though he's not feeling well, Cebuano world No.1 e-karateka James de los Santos went on to attain another success.

The 30-year-old De los Santos reasserted his dominance over Alfredo Bustamante of the United States, 25.7-24.3 to reign supreme in the Golden League Karate eTournament Series #3 yesterday.

In pocketing his 23rd gold medal, the two-time Southeast Asian (SEA) Games bronze medalist further stretched his huge lead in the e-kata word rankings.

It also cemented his goal to stay on top of he totem pole until the end of the year.

Interestingly, De los Santos managed to execute his routines with finesse despite being under the weather and showed relief after testing negative for Covid-19.

“I have to admit that I was feeling under the weather (it's not Covid-19) during the finals but I still performed and ended up winning my 23rd gold," De los Santos wrote on his Facebook page. "I am also glad to say that I was declared negative after my Covid-19 test results came out."

De los Santos then took the opportunity to remind everyone that the deadly virus is still out there and it's highly necessary to follow all health and safety protocols mandated by the government. — EBV
