Emmanuel B. Villaruel - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Some of Cebu's top chess players will gang up on International Master Oliver Dimakiling in the fourth installment of the monthly Stay at Home Chess Challenge billed as the 'Bounty' edition.

The two-hour tournament backed up by Sunshine Almonds owned by Ralph Palmeri will be played on lichess.org at 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 4, in arena format (berserk is not allowed).

Event organizer IM Kim Steven Yap said the tournament, which will be streamed live on the Cebu School of Chess (CSC) Facebook page, is more exciting this time as those who can beat Grandmaster candidate Dimakiling will get a P200 bonus.

Among those who are out to give the Bohol-native Dimakiling a run for his money are defending champion Bryle Arellano, National Masters Rommel Ganzon, Edsel Montoya, and Rogelio Enriquez Jr., second edition champ Remegio Galenzoga, Allan Salientes, Joel Pacuribot, Antonio Cabibil, Richard Natividad, and International Arbiter Lincoln Yap, a consistent top performer among senior entries.

Also, Kim Yap said the total cash prize has been upped to P30,000.

The champion will pocket P3,000, while the second to fifth placers will receive P2,500, P2,000, P1,500, and P1,000, respectively. The sixth to 10th will have P500, while the 11th to 20th placers will get P400 each.

The top three female winners will take P1,000, P500 and P400 while the top three kiddies will get P1,000, P400 and 300. The lucky pick at 33rd place will snatch P400 while seven non-winners will get a chance to win P300

apiece in the raffle draw.

Yap said there will also be lots of raffle draws for viewers and fans such as the top CSC fan, best picture and video sharer, trivia question, and game study.

Entry fee is pegged at P100 for the early birds and P200 for the later registrants. Those who are interested to join have only until this Thursday, July 2, to register.
