National rhythmic gymnastics tilt unfurls today

CEBU, Philippines —  The first ever National Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament billed as “The Sinulog Cup” gets underway at 10 a.m. today at the atrium of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Spearheaded by the Academy of Cebu Gymnastics (ACG), the three-day tilt aims to improve the competence level of the young aspiring gymnasts by giving them the needed exposure and the opportunity to meet top caliber athletes in their field that may inspire them along the way as they try to reach their goals of becoming champions someday.

It also aspires to develop a positive self-esteem for the participants by instilling the values of good sportsmanship, self-discipline, respect and accountability in them during the course of the competition that is being held in partnership with national team coach Dyanara Arandela and the city government of Cebu through the Cebu City Sports Commission and councilor Dondon Hontiveros.

The organizing ACG behind the stewardship of its director Mikhaela Kirsten Silverio is grateful for the support they got in staging the event and that through this they hope to build a bridge of friendship among rhythmic gymnastics clubs across the country.

The ACG is an affiliate member of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) headed by Cynthia Carrion-Norton and secretary-general Bettina H. Pou.

It is also the official partner of Mabolo Elementary School. Fifty of its students are training for free under ACG’s fold.

In the past year, ACG has helped athletes gain success by winning 20 gold medals, 12 silvers and 20 bronzes in various local and national tournaments. EBV
