Enriquez eyes record five-peat in CEPCA ‘Battle of Champions’

CEBU, Philippines – The best of the best will take centerstage in the year-ending tournament of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association billed as the “Battle of Champions” this Sunday, December 15, at the residence of CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas in Royale Cebu Estates in Barangay Casili, Consolacion.

A dozen players who topped CEPCA’s monthly qualifying tilt will fight it out for supremacy as well as the bragging rights as the club’s top player of the year.

Leading the cast of contenders is National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr., who is training his sights on a record five-peat.

Out to challenge Enriquez’s four-year reign are Vince dela Torre,  Amado Olea, Rey Flores, Rosendo Yamyamin,  Venancio Loyola Jr., Jun Pasion, Ruel Hortelano, and Edwin Cablao.

Also in the hunt for the coveted crown are Ruel Nuttal, Filemon Kapuno III and Richard Ouano.

Cash prizes will be given away to the top finishers.

Aside from the competition, the four-in-one event also serves as CEPCA’s annual Christmas get-together, election of officers, and induction of new members. EBV
