Cebu netters sizzle in Palawan Pawnshop National Tennis Championships

CEBU, Philippines — Young Cebuano netters flexed their athletic muscles to dominate their respective classes in the Palawan Pawnshop National Tennis Championships-Buglasan Tennis Festival at the Praxevilla Tennis Courts in Dumaguete City.

David Ezra Sepulveda led the charge after scoring at twinkill via the 10-under singles and doubles. Sepulveda opened his campaign with a 4-0, 4-0 victory over Akemi Baniel.

He then upended hometown bet John Llorente, 4-0, 4-2, followed by a 4-0, 4-2 victory over Prince Baisa in the semis. Sepulveda was put to the test in the finals but was able to outlast Pete Rafael Bandala, 4-2, 7-5.

Sepulveda then teamed up with Bandala as they clinched the doubles crown over Baisa and Matthew Morris, 8-5.

Meanwhile, Khymberly McKenzie managed to secure four titles in the girls 14, 16, 18 plus the girls’doubles together with her sister Ashley.

Khymberly nabbed the girls 14 crown at the expense of Siquijor’s Kiarrah Banico,7-6, 6-2.

After a short rest, Khymberly then dominated the girls 16 and 18 both against her own sister Ashley McKenzie also with an identical score of 6-3, 6-4.

Khymberly was also named the Most Valuable Player in the girls division as Valencia’s Randy Tatoy was hailed as MVP for boys.
