CEBU, Philippines — Allan del Rosario dropped 23 points to power Poblacion past Bulacao, 86-79, in a battle of unbeaten teams in the seniors division of the 2019 Talisay City Mayor’s Cup Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
Bryan Gerali added 16 points, while Jaffer Hernando, Jess Cabisas and Rovan Kadenas connived for 25 points as Poblacion grabbed the lead in Bracket D with a clean 2-0 slate.
Poblacion got off to a slow start resulting to an early 17-25 deficit but staged a great comeback in the final half where they outpointed Bulacao, 43-30, to steal the win.
In the other seniors division duel, Ariel Bacacao and Joshua Abellana nailed 15 markers apiece as Lagtang zapped Manipis, 83-69, to take the solo second place in Bracket A with a 2-1 win-loss record behind 2-0 Mohon.
Trannel Mercado scored 14 and Kiven Lozano added 13 for Lagtang, which was in complete control of the match since racing to a 35-25 advantage at halftime.
In the juniors division, Juneckon Balingit torched 28 points and Jade Maduyo chipped in 23 markers as San Roque annihilated Candulawan, 119-59, to jump at second place in Bracket A with two victories in three starts.
Joseph Nalos and Dave Fernandez combined for 27 points for San Roque, which threw a vicious 34-4 punch in the first period that sent Candulawan wobbling the rest of the way.
San Roque even grew hotter as the match progressed on the way to carve out a 60-point blowout, by far the most lopsided triumph in the league. - EBV
