Magis Eagles complete semis cast

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Landmasters-backed Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles rallied to a 67-59 victory over the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) campus to complete the semifinal cast in the juniors division of the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Partner’s Cup over the weekend at the University of San Carlos (USC)-Main gym.

For ending the elimination round with a 5-3 win-loss record, the Magis Eagles took the fourth and last trip to the Final Four.

UCLM bowed out listless in eight games in their CESAFI debut.

The Magis Eagles still face a tall order though as they will go up next against the undefeated topseed ARQ Builders-University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers (8-0) in the semis on July 29.

On the other hand, the Hotel Fortuna-University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters capped their campaign in the classification stage with a pulsating 112-109 win in double overtime against the Tough Gear/Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Baby Cobras.

UC finished the elims with a 6-2 card in a tie with the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars.

The Baby Jaguars, however, claimed the No.2 spot by virtue of a simple tie as they trounced the Junior Webmasters, 72-46, during their June 23 encounter.

That means the Baby Jaguars will enjoy twice-to-beat advantage over UC in their semis duel set for July 30. (FREEMAN)
