Cebu City Marathon unfurls today

CEBU, Philippines —  Over 4,000 running buffs from 32 countries around the globe will hit the toads early morning today for the 12th Cebu City Marathon starting and ending at the Cebu Business Park.

The annual race organized by the Cebu Executive Runners Club  (CERC) features the 5K, 21K and 42K categories.

Though the numbers are lesser than the previous edition which drew a record-breaking 5,000 participants, the organizers stressed their commitment on quality in limiting the slots for this year's event.

"We want to ensure quality for this year and not quantity," said CERC's Kenneth Casquejo. "We are praying to Sto. Niño for a fine weather but the race will go on, rain or shine."

Aside from Cebu's hometown bets and out-of-town participants, foreign runners from 32 different nationalities are also coming over to take part in Cebu's biggest marathon event.

CCM's trademark of putting up colorful and lively water stations along the race route is still the major highlight this year.

"Expect another fun-filled marathon since a lot of entertainment along the route via hydration stations will be added.  Our partners will have a surprise set up of live bands and cheerleaders. We also offer local delicacies to satisfy the cravings of the runners," said Casquejo.

Cash prizes and medals will be given away to the top finishers.
