All set for CEPCA anniversary tourney

CEBU, Philippines — It's all systems go for the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association's 28th anniversary offering billed as the "Boy 'Chessmoso' Pestaño Memorial Open Chess Team Tournament 2018' scheduled this weekend at the Barracks Chess Club located at the fourth floor of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

 

Tournament director Jun Olis said a total of 25 teams from different schools, towns, cities, barangays and clubs have already signed up for the big event but the figure may swell to more than 30 as the registration is still open until 12 noon on Saturday, October 20.

 

Backed up mainly by Jemar Engineering Services, Celjem Construction and Development Corporation, Handuraw, Salon de Rose and Hale Manna, the two-day tilt follows a 7-round Swiss system format.

Sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, each team consists of three players rated or unrated with an average NCFP rating of 2000. Unrated players are automatically given a rating of 1800.

Close to P75,000 in cash prize will be given away to the top finishers, with the champion getting the biggest chunk of P25,000.

The second and third placers will take home P15,000 and P10,000, respectively, while the fourth and fifth will pocket P5,000 and P3,000. The sixth to 10th will receive P2,500 each.

The top board players, on the other hand, will get P3,000 apiece.

All games will be under the supervision of tournament chairman and CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas assisted by Jun Olis, chief arbiter Marvin Ruelan and his members in Engr. John Velarde, FA Edward de la Torre, and Engr. Bob Inocian.

Entry fee is pegged at P600 for all-kiddies and all-ladies, and P1,500 for regular teams.

One may register at the Barrack Chess Club or at the Ayala Chess Center.
