Danlag barges into midget finals in Alegado Cup

CEBU, Philippines — Danlag relied on a great team effort to complete its stunning upset of the twice-to-beat Pulpogan via a 72-71 cliffhanger in the 8th Mayor Teresa 'Nene' P. Alegado Cup Fiesta Basketball League in Consolacion.

Clark Jugan led five players in double figures with 19 points as Danlag sets up a championship showdown with Tayud in Midgets Category A.

Mark Orongan finished with 13 points, while Jonas Chu, Lance De la Cerna, and Jirus Lupo all scored 12 for Danlag.

In SK Juniors Category A, Brevin Keith Padayogdog nailed 19 markers, while Ronald Maraño and Dexter Panangin tallied 31 points in between them as Cabangahan ousted Tayud, 73-70, to barge into the semifinals against the defending champion Pulpogan.

On the other hand, Jerome Valle sank eight 3-pointers of his 28 points as Poblacion Oriental outlasted Cabahangan, 91-85, to march into the semifinals of the Inter-Barangay Seniors Category A.

Brothers Lemuel and Larry Malagar connived for 31 points, while Jan Haniel Abinales added 12 points for Poblacion Oriental, which faces a tall order against the twice-to-beat defending titlist Pulpogan in the semis.

In the open category, Randy Colonia sizzled with 24 points, Art Pepito added 20 and Japet Naingue chipped in 17 markers as Boss KTV downed Branz All Friends, 80-74, to take the solo second place in the standings with a 3-1 win-loss mark.

Branz All Friends, led by Lemuel and Larry Malagar with 17 points each, dropped to 1-2.

It was a double whammy for Branz All Friends as they also got beaten by David Justine, 65-82.

Joniel Maglasang tossed in 15 points, Joseph Cabahug scored 13 and Jose Magdadaro chalked up 11 points as David Justin raised its record to 2-1. (FREEMAN)
