Talisay Landing beach volley on today

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu's beach volley stars will collide with each other as the 2018 Talisay Landing Beach Volleyball Tournament gets underway today at the Aznar Beach Resort in Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City.

Slugging it out for the women's crown are Paula Maninang, Klymince Orellanida and Lynlyn Terado of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), Therese Rae Ramas and Floremel Rodriguez of Team Bitz, Muriel Keziah S. Opoc, May Ann Perino, and Jahmaica P. Sabellano of the University of Cebu, Jan Marie Grace Gayo and Charisse Sungahid of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and Francess Macasero and Wellamae Ortega of Team Bogs.

Former national team member Jade Becaldo, John Kevin Juban and Raphy Abanto representing the University of the Visayas (UV) are the team to beat in the men's category.

They are expected to face a tough challenge though from Clint Recto, Joshua Rhey P. Sillos, and Ephraim John Pastor of UC; JaiJai Verbosidad and Nino Gairanod of USJ-R; Menchel Remulta, Ryan Naranjo and John Tormis of USPF; and Roy A. Ulan and Jewel Cabahug of Team Sykes Asia.

The order of play will be determined by drawing of lots. Games in the women's division will commence  at 8 am, while action in the men's side will start at 1 pm yet. The crossover semifinals and the championship matches are scheduled tomorrow.

Aside from medals, the champions will receive P5,000 each, while the second to third placers will get P4,000, P3,000, P2,000, P1,000, respectively.

The two-day tilt is among highlights of the 73rd anniversary celebration of the historic Talisay Landing of the American Liberation Forces.
