Duke-Voltaire chessfest first big event of 2018

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano pawnpushers brace for their first event of the year, the Duke Harris III and Voltaire Sevillano Handicapping Chess Tournament slated on January 6 at the Basement 1 of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The champion will pocket P5,000, while the second and third placers will receive P3,000 and P1,000, respectively.

The fourth to fifth will get P500 each, the sixth to 10th will have P300, while the top kiddie and female players will take home P500 apiece.

Spearheaded by the Cebu School of Chess under the stewardship of International Master Kim Steven Yap, the 7-round Swiss system tilt is backed up by Lulu Sevillano with the support of Bent Budde, longtime sports patron Bogie Lim and Dubai-based Cebuano chess benefactor Jobannie Tabada.

Registration fee is pegged at P250.
