CEBU, Philippines - Team Slaughter/San Remigio Properties bagged the championship of the Ginebra San Miguel 3on3 basketball tournament Cebu leg held at the Barangay Pasil gym over the weekend. The team, composed of Jan Michael Auditor, Edrian Lao, Christian Floyd Taboada and Randy Colonia, defeated Team Tenorio, 21-12 in the finals.
It was close and tentative at the start, with both sides exchanging baskets leading to a 10-all tie before the floodgates opened for Team Slaughter.
Taboada ignited a 7-0 run with a two-point basket followed by five straight points by Lao for a commanding 17-10 lead with four minutes left in the game.
So dominating was Team Slaughter/San Remigio Properties that Team Tenorio had no reply except for a two-point basket for the rest of the game.
Lao dominated the paint and led Team Slaughter/San Remigio Properties with nine points. Taboada added six. Jeff and Johnmar Gudes led Team Tenorio with five points apiece.
Team Slaughter made it to the finals by beating Team J. Cruz, 17-5, in the round of 16, then Team Jamito, 17-7, in the quarterfinals and Team Mercado, 19-8, in the semifinals.
From the other side of the playoff bracket, Team Tenorio ousted Team De Guzman, 14-9, in the round of 16, Team Mariano, 11-10, in the quarterfinals and Team Taha, 17-9, in the semifinals.
VIPs of Ginebra San Miguel Visayas were on hand to spice up the event including Area Sales Manager Gerry Madamba, Territory Sales Manager Arjay Acosta, Trade Promotions and Merchandising Head Wilbert Santiago, Sales System and Training Head Prisco Caranatan and Metro Cebu District Sales Supervisor Sotero de la Serna. Barangay Captain Julius Guioguio welcomed the event, thankful that Ginebra San Miguel held the tournament in Pasil for a second straight year.
The 2017 Ginebra San Miguel 3on3 is a nationwide tournament featuring the top 3on3 teams in the country. Team Slaughter/San Remigio Properties will represent Cebu in the national finals held in cooperation with the Philippine Basketball Association. This will be held September 1 to 3 at the SM Megamall, with the championship game to be played at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as part of a regular PBA game day. (FREEMAN)
