Dumanjug to host first triathlon event

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  After Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island, action in the three-part 2015 Team Triathlon Championships shifts to the municipality of Dumanjug south of Cebu for the second leg set for September 26.

It’s the first time for Dumanjug to host a triathlon event in an effort to make their annual fiesta celebration more festive and exciting.

"Actually, Dumanjug wanted to host a triathlon event for sometime already but because of the political situation there, we cannot finalize everything until this time under acting mayor Edgar Gica, already gave his go signal. We are thankful that they are hosting the second leg," said Sugbutriathlon's Benjo Gimenez during a press conference yesterday at Cebu Pension.

The race will feature the standard and sprint distances. Different age groups will be contested in the standard distance, while the sprint has the men and women's open division.

One may register at the The Brick in Cebu IT Park or at SATS office located across Gaisano Grand Mall.

The early birds or those who register today until August 26 will enjoy a discounted rate of P2,000 for the standard, P1,800 for sprint and P1,500 per person in the relay event. Late registrants will be assessed with an additional fee of P500.

The registration includes event t-shirt, finisher's medal, post-race meal, bib, helmet and bike number.

Cash prizes will be given away to the top three finishers in the standard distance, while medals will be awarded to the top performers in the age group and sprint category. (FREEMAN)
