Univille Homes bootfest set this weekend

CEBU, Philippines - A mixture of neophyte and seasoned teams will see action in the first Univille Homes Football Festival this weekend at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Univille Homes President Jerry Guardo said he had long been wanting to help organize football tournaments after seeing an international friendly some years back at the CCSC.

Guardo, though not a football player, had been instrumental in converting Sambag 1’s former barangay hall to what is now, the Cebu Football Association office, as he believes in the benefits that football can bring to the youth.

Close to 100 squads spread in eight categories will take part in the two-day tilt. The age groups to be contested include the boys 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 18-under and the girls15 and 18-under.

They will also play in a 7-a-side format aside from the games, there will also be some side events like the shooting accuracy and the cross-bar challenge.

Only the participants will be able to join in the side events so they won’t get bored while waiting for their next scheduled game. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
