Gen Nagai, LK Go rule 10th Alta Vista Jungolf Challenge

CEBU, Philippines - Gen Nagai of Cebu Country Club completed a grandslam of sorts as he bagged title for boys’ class A while teammate Lois Kaye Go ran away with the girls’ class A crown in the 10th Junior Golf Challenge, which ended Friday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

The 17-year-old Cebu-based Japanese player, Nagai, nailed a birdie from about four feet on the final hole, to nail the crown.  He finished with a three-day total of 222 strokes on rounds of 75, 79, and 68 and squeaked past JJ Gamolo of Del Monte in the countback.

Nagai fired 36 strokes on his final nine, while Gamolo, who also finished with 222 (73-77-72) had 37 strokes on his final nine holes to settle for the first runner-up honors.

Second runner-up was Alta Vista’s Weiwei Gao, who led the tournament during the first two days.  Gao had an aggregate of 226 on rounds of 70, 79, and 77.

Nagai was also awarded the overall title based on his output on the final two rounds.  He made 147 strokes.

In the distaff side for the 15 to 17 years old category, LK Go sustained her hold of the lead to take the title with an aggregate of 227 strokes on rounds of 74, 78, and 75.

First runner-up honors went to Alta Vista’s Ericka Lim, who sneaked past Del Monte’s Pamela Mariano on the final round.  Lim had a total of 239 strokes on rounds of 79, 84, and 76.

In class B (13-14 years old) for boys, Ira Christian Alido of Navy Golf bagged the title with a total of 221 strokes (72-75-74).  First runner-up was Alta Vista’s Weiyu Gao with 229 (77-77-75) while second runner-up was Rusell Bautista of Mactan with 231 (78-77-76).

Alta Vista’s Junia Gabasa bagged the girls’ title with a total of 238 strokes on rounds of 81, 77, and 80.  First runner-up was Angela Mangana of Mactan with 250 edging Martina Miñoza of Del Monte in the countback.

The title for class C boys went to Navy’s Josh Jorge with 155 strokes on rounds of 80 and 75.  First runner-up was Rolando Bregente of Del Monte with 166 followed by Alta Vista’s Mark Cannen with 174.

The girls title for class C went to Yvon Bisera of Apo Golf with 183 (95-88) followed by Laia Simone Barro of Navy with 185 (92-93).

Sean Granada of Navy topped boys’ class D with 165 (86-79) while David Guango of Manila Southwoods took the first runner-up honors with 178 followed by Cebu Country Club’s Tatsuyoshi Ochiai at second runner-up with 184.

Samantha Marie Dizon of Navy topped girls’ class D with 158 (80-78) followed by Alessandra Christine Nagayo of Apo Golf with 174.

Zeus Sara won the title for boys’ class E with a two-day total of 70 strokes playing nine holes per day.  Second place went to Andrew Josh Chua of Navy with 81 and at third was Apo’s Sean Friis with 92.

The title for the girls’ division went to Navy’s Alexi Blanco with 91 strokes followed by teammate Ma. Theresa de la Paz with 93.

Alta Vista 1 composed of Junia Gabasa (77-80), Weiwei Gao (79-77), Weiyu Gao (77-75), and Ericka Lim (84-76) bagged the team title with a total of 625 strokes.

First runner-up for the team event was Cebu Country Club composed of LK Go (78-75), Gen Nagai (79-68), Tyler Po (86-79), and Aaron Sorino (80-75) with a total of 635.

Second runner-up was Navy Golf 1 with 642.  The team members were Ira Christian Alido (75-74), Paolo Joaquin Barro (88-85), Sean Granada (86-79), and Josh Jorge (80-75).
