SWU belles score 5-game sweep

CEBU, Philippines – Defending women's champion Southwestern University completed a five-game sweep to emerge as elimination round topnotcher in volleyball event of the 2014 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. season yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.

SWU claimed the University of San Jose-Recoletos as its latest victim in four sets, 25-12, 25-8, 23-25, 25-18.

Despite the loss, USJ-R still moved into the next round with a 3-2 win-loss record.

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation, on the other hand, kept its bid alive after escaping past the University of Cebu in four sets, 25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15.

In the men's division, SWU slammed UC, 25-12, 25-14, 25-19, while the Cebu Institute of Technology University caught everyone by surprise after it stunned the University of the Visayas in a four-setter, 12-25, 27-25, 27-25, 25-22.

In the secondary girls action, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu shipped UC in straight sets, 25-11, 25-15. (FREEMAN)
