Cebu jungolfers win in NGAP regionals

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu-based junior golfers showed the way in the 2013 Visayas Regional Amateur Golf championship of the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour by bagging top honors at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club last weekend.

Cebu Country Club’s Gen Nagai, 16, won the top honors in the men’s division firing rounds of  75, 71 and 71 in the short, but tricky layout in the town of Murcia, Negros Occidental for a total of 217 strokes or seven-over-par for the three days.

First runner-up was Nick Martin Aleluya with 74, 74 and 76 for an aggregate of 224 strokes.

Alta Vista Golf and Country Club’s We-wei Gao finished third with a total of 227 strokes firing rounds of 83, 72, and 72.  Gao is 14 years old.

Mactan Island Golf Club’s Fernando Mondares finished one stroke behind Gao with 228 on rounds of 80, 74, and 74.

In the ladies division, 13-year-old Lois Kaye Go of Cebu Country Club bagged the lowest gross honors with a two-day total of 151 strokes on rounds of  74 and 77.

Runner-up honors went to Mikylah Marie Crystal of Alta Vista with 159 strokes on rounds of 81 and 78 while second runner-up was Julienne Pacetes with 167 on rounds of 86 and 81 strokes.

The lowest net honors went to Cara Golez with a two-day total of 140 strokes on rounds of 71 and 69 winning the title after edging Gabrielle Marie Crystal also of Alta Vista in the tie break.  Crystal had an identical output of 140 also on rounds of  71 and 69.

In the mid-amateur division, Gerard Golez bagged the lowest gross honors with a two-day total of 163 strokes on rounds of 78 and 85.  First runner-up was Carlos Villaroman with 181 (87-94) while Japanese Yoshio Yamane of Mactan Island Golf Club was third with 187 (83-104).

The lowest net award went to Carlos Vincent Coscolluela III with 144 (74-70)— www.fullpointcebu.com (FREEMAN)
