Barangay Guadalupe extends “stay-at-home” Sundays
CEBU, Philippines — The implementation of strict border control and mandatory “stay-at-home” Sunday in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City has been extended following the continued rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the area.
Barangay Captain Michael Gacasan said the strict protocols will go on until the new infections subside. The barangay was supposed to lift their strict protocols after 14 days but the officials deemed it prudent to extend because of the continued spike.
Guadalupe remained on top of the barangays with highest number of COVID-19 cases in the city. Records at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) showed that Guadalupe have registered 167 cases from January 25 to February 7.
“Hangtud pa gyud mi ani og mogamay na’ng kaso diri og balik. Pero unsaon man pud ni’ng daghan man gihapong mga badlongon, naay uban katulo na namo nadakpan, nindot og prisohon na lang unta ni’g klaro,” said Gacasan.
Most of the cases, however, are close contacts with index cases, mostly health care workers, banks and call center employees.
“Halos magkapamilya ni’ng mga kaso sa amoa,” Gacasan said.
The barangay is beefing its monitoring of the newly-reopened isolation center and contact tracing efforts.
At present, 65 barangays in the city have active COVID-19 cases. There were no reported transmissions in 15 barangays in the last 14 days.
Guadalupe remains on top with 167 cases followed by Labangon, 81; Apas and Talamban with 77 cases each; Lahug and Tisa also with 63 each; Barrio Luz with 59; Capitol Site, Kasambagan and Punta Princesa with 54 each; Basak San Nicolas and Mabolo with 53 each; Mambaling with 44; Sambag 1 with 43; and Inayawan with 40 active cases. — FPL (FREEMAN)
