PSHS graduates told to pursue passion for science

CEBU, Philippines — Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. has urged graduates of Philippine Science High School (PSHS) - Central Visayas Campus in Argao, Cebu to pursue their passion for science and innovation.

Recognizing their potential, Solidum as commencement speaker, emphasized the importance of their role in shaping the nation's scientific landscape and addressing pressing societal challenges such as food security, health, economy, environment, and education.

He also reminded the students to never be afraid to come out of their comfort zone, try new experiences, and make mistakes as learning takes place when they allow themselves to explore.

 According to DOST-7, the new batch of 89 Pisay graduates represents the future generation of scientists, researchers, and innovators who will drive the country's progress.

Aside from Solidum, Education Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio surprised everyone with her recorded video message during the graduation ceremony.

As young educated Filipinos, Duterte hopes that the graduates realize the depth of their potential and use this not just to achieve their dreams and change their lives, but to help their fellow Filipinos and the country.

She added, that consistent with DEPED’s MATATAG Agenda, they will continue to promote programs and uphold reforms that would nurture resilient mindsets to mold Filipinos to have the capacity and resiliency to thrive in challenging circumstances.

The presence of Solidum, as well as the message of Duterte, serves as a source of motivation for the graduates and the entire PSHS community.

Their unwavering support for STEM education and commitment to advancing scientific research and development further reinforced the importance of nurturing young scientific minds to fuel the country's progress.

The PSHS-Central Visayas Campus, DOST-7, said is known for its exceptional academic standards, has consistently produced remarkable graduates who have gone on to make significant contributions to various scientific fields.

Solidum is confident in the abilities of the graduating class, encouraging them to embrace challenges and explore new frontiers in their chosen disciplines. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
