Buhisan Dam is not drying up - MCWD

CEBU, Philippines — There is a drop in water level from the Buhisan dam but it is far from being alarming, the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) clarified.

MCWD spokesperson Minerva Gerodias, in an interview with The Freeman, said there is no truth that Buhisan’s water supply is now drying up.

Based on their records, the lowest it had produced was 2,500 cubic meters per day back in 2017 due to the dry season.

Normal water production of Buhisan is at 5,000 cubic meters per day accordingly.

Currently, with the dry season being felt again, it has gone down to 3,500 cubic meters.

But Gerodias said this should not be a cause for alarm.

Earlier, it was also reported that Jaclupan also experienced a slight decrease in its production of water from 30,000 to 25,000 cubic meters.

MCWD said it has nine water trucks on standby should there be areas that will experience scarcity of water.

The Cebu City government had also already declared a “state of preparedness” with three water tanks rationing off water to the barangays.

The City Agriculture Department (CAD) has also been preparing already for the dry season to protect the local produce.  — Sanden J. Anadia, GMR (FREEMAN)
