TUCP backs Marcos-Duterte tandem

CEBU, Philippines — After a series of consultations nationwide, the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) has chosen to support the Uniteam tandem of former senator Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in the May 9, 2022 elections.

TUCP spokesperson Alan Tanjusay said the choice was a majority decision from workers in major industries such as service, agriculture and manufacturing sectors across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

“The vote advantage of Mr. Marcos and Ms. Duterte-Carpio and with those four other pair of presidential and vice-presidential aspirants was very wide. It was an overwhelmingly majority decision in all caucuses held differently in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao," Tanjusay said in a statement.

Tanjusay said that the union members were made to choose between aspirants Marcos and Duterte-Carpio; Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan; Isko Moreno and Doc Willie Ong; Panfilo Lacson and Tito Sotto; and Manny Pacquiao and Lito Atienza.

TUCP President and TUCP Partylist Representative Raymond Mendoza said that they will make a formal endorsement of Marcos and Duterte within the week along with a list of senatorial candidates the group has chosen to support.
