CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu Vice Governor Hilario Davide III has admitted that he and the camp of Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) Party have been in talks about the upcoming 2022 elections.

Davide is an ally of the Durano family who run the Bakud Party in the fifth district of the Province of Cebu.

“We have been kuan (talking) but wala pa gyud decision,” Davide said.

There have been talks that Davide will seek re-election in next year’s poll but when asked for confirmation, Davide refused to comment about this and told the media to wait for his announcement.

But he admitted that the Duranos asked him to be the runningmate of former Tourism secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano should the latter decide to run for governor in the 2022 elections.

“Paabota na lang ang announcement ana ha, mo-announce ra mi unya, mo-announce ra unya ko. I’ll just make announcement later paabota lang ang October,” Davide told reporters.

The Bakud Party announced last week that Durano is considering running for the highest post in the province in next year’s election.

According to Bakud Party, among the things that Durano is considering before making the final decision is his runningmate.

“Ace only has one person in mind, who shares the same values and kind of leadership as him. There are still ongoing discussions, but if this person agrees to run with him, then it would be a much easier decision for Ace,” said former congressman Ramon “Red” Durano VI, the president of Bakud Party.

Davide, a two-term governor from 2013 to 2019, ran for vice governor in the 2019 elections and won under the Liberal Party. — GMR (FREEMAN)
