CEBU, Philippines — Despite the spate of shooting incidents, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said there is nothing to be alarmed of yet.
Police Lieutenant Wilbert Parilla, CCPO’s deputy director of operations, said the number of gun-related violence is still “manageable.”
“Luwas atong katawhan sa bisan unsa’ng panghitabo,” he said.
CCPO recorded 18 shooting incidents for this month, including two incidents Tuesday.
Most of these cases, Parilla said, were triggered by personal grudge.
Last Tuesday in Barangay Kalunasan, neighbors Novie Gabunada, 40, and Denny Dungog, 38, got into a heated exchange and fistfight over a land dispute. The fight led to a shooting.
Gabunada shot Dungog. Fortunately, the latter survived.
Gabunada will face charges of frustrated murder.
On the same day at around 8 p.m., Galo Baya, 48, surrendered to authorities after shooting his wife, 47-year-old Marlyn, in Barangay Sambag 1.
Parilla said the couple had a fight.
“Nag-away lang sila, personal ang mag-asawa,so wala ta kabalo og unsa nay sitwasyon sa ilang pagpuyo og nganibg naabot na sa oras nga gipusil sa bana iyang asawa,” he said. — KQD (FREEMAN)
