Localized rains still expected in Metro Cebu

“Sa atong forecast (made yesterday) karong mosunod nga 24 oras, ang Metro Cebu apil ang kinatibuk-ang Central Visayas ug Eastern Visayas makasinati og kasarangan nga panahon,” PAGASA Visayas said in its weather report on Sunday.

CEBU, Philippines —  After experiencing rainy weather lately, Metro Cebu and the rest of Central Visayas can expect a warm weather today but rain remains on the radar due to localized thunderstorms and the so-called monsoon trough, which may be experienced in the afternoon and evening, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

“Sa atong forecast (made yesterday) karong mosunod nga 24 oras, ang Metro Cebu apil ang kinatibuk-ang Central Visayas ug Eastern Visayas makasinati og kasarangan nga panahon,” PAGASA Visayas said in its weather report on Sunday.

“Magapasulabi ang init sa adlaw apan duna gihapon kalit nga pagpanag-om sa kalangitan, inubanan sa mga pat-ak pat-ak ug mga lumalabay nga mga pag-ulan ug pagpanugdog ug kilat tungod sa mga localized thunderstorms ug sa monsoon trough labi na gyud sa hapon ug sa gabii,” it added.

The last few days in the metro have been rainy, and this has prompted the soil in landslide-prone areas in Cebu City to give in.

In fact, the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recorded six landslides on Saturday alone, with one in La Guerta, Barangay Lahug displacing at least seven individuals.

Landslides were also reported in Barangays Kalunasan, Lahug, Apas, Pung-ol Sibugay, Taptap, and Tagbao.

Also, 22 families were displaced after floodwaters entered their houses in Sitio Pili, Barangay Malubog.

Due to the heavy rains, water level in the rivers in Barangays Malubog, Sinsin, Cambinocot, and Bonbon and on General Maxilom Avenue, Kamputhaw Bridge, Tejero Creek, and McArthur Boulevard rose.

In Barangay T. Padilla, 10 to 20 families were affected by the flood in Sitios Soquite and Bukog, and around 10 to 15 families in Sitios Indian and A Valle.

The CCDRRMC also reported toppled trees in Bacayan, Capitol Site, Tisa, Banawa, and Pulangbato, and Pope John Paul Avenue, and a wall collapsed in Kalunasan and Jardin de Busay.

CCDRRMO continues to conduct information dissemination among residents, as well as assess the damage in these areas.

Sea conditions

As to the wind and sea conditions today, PAGASA said that the whole of the Visayas, as well as Palawan and Occidental Mindoro, will experience light to moderate winds coming from southeast to south, which are expected to cause a corresponding rise in the height of sea waves.

The weather bureau also forecast that minimum temperature in the region today will range from 24 to 25 degrees Celsius with maximum temperature at around 31 degrees Celsius.

Heat index, on the other hand, is estimated at 36 to 39 degrees Celsius under extreme caution category. — Deogracia William Bemida, Silliman University Intern, JMD (FREEMAN)
