CEBU, Philippines — Despite delays in the procurement of the COVID-19 vaccines, there is no stopping for Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan in educating his constituents about the vaccination.

Chan led yesterday the distribution of leaflets about COVID-19 vaccination among market vendors at the public market in Barangay Poblacion.

“Ato silang gipasabot kay importante nga ma-edukar ang matag Oponganon sa mga saktong impormasyon kalabot sa Covid-19 vaccine,” the mayor said in his Facebook post.

Chan said he is doing this to demonstrate the importance of knowing about the vaccines so that his constituents can make a right decision about this vaccination instead of believing fake news or wrong information.

“Kahibalo ko nga daghang kalibog ug kahadlok kalabot sa Covid-19 vaccine mao nga isip amahan sa matag Oponganon, ako mismo magpabakuna inig abot niini sa atong dakbayan,” the mayor said.

Under Phase 1 of the city’s Covid-19 Vaccination Action Plan, the priorities are the healthcare workers like the contact tracers, City Health Office staff, barangay health workers, among others.

For the Phase 2 are the public transportataion drivers, market vendors and essential frontliners. For the Phase 3 are the senior citizens, persons with disability and indigent residents.

While for the Phase 4, it will be the personnel from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

“Labing importante karong panahona nga mopatigbabaw ang atong panaghiusa ug disiplina sa kaugalingon mao nga tabangi ko nga magmalampuson ta batok ning makamatay nga sakit. Walay imposible kon kitang tanan magtinabangay,” the mayor said.

There will be over 100,000 leaflets that will be distributed in the city which aims to answer some queries of the people about the COVID-19 vaccinations such as how safe is the vaccine, its effects ones vaccinated, who are the priorities in the vaccination, whether there is a need for everyone to be vaccinated, among others. — GMR (FREEMAN)
