In Naga City: Brigada Eskwela shifts to ‘new normal’ needs

Gregg M. Rubio - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Department of Education (DepEd) City of Naga Division is calling for donors of essential items to prevent the spread of coronavirus virus in lieu of the items for traditional Brigada Eskwela.

Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide initiative of the DepEd that brings together all education stakeholders to help prepare public schools for the opening of classes.

Alexa Manna Chiong-Padron, division designate as Education Program Specialist in Social Mobilization, said Brigada Eskwela traditionally involves physical cleaning, repainting and minor repairs.

“Under the new normal, those activities will no longer happen,” Padron said.

Padron added that in light of the current COVID-19 situation, this year’s Brigada Eskwela shall ensure that learning is continued while being responsive to the global pandemic.

She said that disinfection of schools and mobilization of essential items are among the suggested partnership engagement activities of DepEd under the new normal.

To help DepEd achieve its goal, Padron said they need essential items such as the following: thermal scanners, disinfectants, disposable surgical/face mask and gloves, vitamins for DepEd personnel, school children and information materials to fight COVID-19.

“It would be of great help to our students and educators if they can donate anything related to the things mentioned,” Padron added. GAN (FREEMAN)
